Piggly Wiggly
Cash Paid Out – $12.40

So…here’s the question:
How is it that a coupon fanatic like myself doesn’t know for 2 whole months that the Piggly Wiggly in town has started doubling coupons up to 90 cents?
I guess, it’s because I haven’t actually been to Piggly Wiggly in forever and didn’t bother to look closely enough at the weekly ad. Oops!!
Well, thanks to Birmingham Bargain Mom for the notice.
Because coupon policy can vary be store, I called to verify this new information. This is what I was told:
Yes, my Piggly Wiggly is, as of November 2009, doubling coupons up to 90 cents and they also accept internet printables up to $1.00, but none for “FREE” items. Yay!!!
Today I decided to take a test run with a few of the coupons I have that are between 50 and 90 cents and see what I could do. I also had a few other things that I needed this week and decided to just go ahead and pick those up while I was there.
Here’s how it went:
2 Heinz Ketchup $1.89 ea
Used .75/1 – Newspaper Insert
Final Price = .39 ea
2 Coffee Mate Creamers $2.39 ea (wasn’t planning on this one, but they had a flavor I love but can’t find anywhere else)
Used .50/1 – Newspaper Insert
Final Price = $1.39 ea (I usually get creamer for .50 or less ea., so this was a splurge)
2 Welch’s Juice $2.69 ea
Used .75/1 – Newspaper Insert
Final Price = $1.19 ea
1 Old El Paso Chopped Green Chilies $1.39
Used .55/1 Internet Printable
Final Price = $.29
1 Betty Crocker Boxed Potatoes $.99
Used .50/1 – In Sample Box
Final Price = $. 19 (coupon rang up as .40/1 instead of .50/1 as stated on coupon – oh well)
1 Fiber One Chewy Bars $2.50
Used .50/1 Newspaper Insert
Final Price = $1.50
1 Nature Valley Granola Bars $3.39
Used .40/1 Newspaper Insert
Final Price = $2.39 (not a very good deal, but Chuck wanted these for breakfast)
My assessment of shopping at the Pig with their new coupon policy:
Piggly Wiggly prices seem quite high for regular shopping. It appears I would be better off doing my normal weekly shopping at Kroger. However, for those coupons that are between .55 and .90 cents, I believe I can get some really good deals on some of those items.
