Where’s Waldo??

Do these glasses remind you of anyone? How about Waldo? You know, from the “Where’s Waldo?” books.

David got these funny glasses a while back at school. Well, the other night Brooke came walking through the house with them on and she looked so cute. Needless to say, we all had to try them on.

Too bad me and Chuck aren’t nearly as cute in the glasses as the kids are, but this was a family funny time. You can check out the rest of the pics here…

David’s Lowe’s Project: Building a Drum

Today, we took David to a “Build and Grow” clinic at Lowe’s. Lowe’s provided kits and aprons for the kids to make their own little drums.

David worked hard to make sure his drum turned out just right. He hammered away while Daddy helped hold the pieces in place.

The drum came together quickly and David was one excited little guy. This was his first real woodworking project.

Now he’s ready to drum away. He even got a certificate and a badge to sew on his Lowe’s apron.

We are still sitting here wishing it was time for Chuck (aka Daddy) to come back home. Right now he is working in Africa. He sent me these pictures and said I could share them with you.

This one is the view outside the window of the four star hotel where he is staying.

And these are a few pictures of the room. The picture quality is not too good, but you can see what the room looks like. At least it looks better inside than outside.

Well, let’s just say, it has that “lived-in look” to it.

Hanauma Bay

Here’s where Jerry, Mike, Jamie, and I took off to snorkel on our first weekend off. This was one of the more beautiful places we visited.

It was exciting seeing several tropical fish, coral and a rear up close look at a sea turtle. In the photos below you’ll see a couple of the guys and a good overview shot of the bay. I didn’t have an underwater camera so you will not see any photos under the water. Photos below.

USS Arizona

The USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor was a really interesting side trip while in Hawaii. I thought the most interesting thing about the trip was that about 75% of the visitors on our tour were Japanese. Also included in the photos below are shots of the tower still standing following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It’s in remarkablly good shape in my opinion.

USS Missouri and USS Utah

USS Missouri
The Missouri was launched on Jan. 29, 1944, and commissioned on June 11, 1944. She was assigned to the Pacific Third Fleet and steamed into Pearl Harbor on Christmas Eve, 1944.

The USS Missouri was part of the force that carried out bombing raids over Tokyo and provided firepower in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. During the war’s final month, the “Mighty Mo” served as Admiral William “Bull” Halsey’s flagship for the Pacific Third Fleet.

The Missouri secured its place in history as the site of Japan’s unconditional surrender to the Allied Forces on Sept. 2, 1945, ending World War II. The ceremony for the signing of the Formal Instrument of Surrender was conducted by Supreme Allied Commander, General Douglas A. MacArthur.

USS Utah
The USS Utah was sunk in the attack on the United States Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The battle-scarred and submerged remains of the battleship are the focal point of a shrine erected by the people of the United States to honor Utah’s crew, 58 of whom lost their lives while trying to save their torpedoed ship. Along with the submerged hulk of USS Arizona on the other side of Ford Island, Utah is a frozen moment of time, lying much as she did in the immediate aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attack.

Boeing SBX

Below is a few photos of what I worked on when I was in Hawaii. It called SBX-1 or Boeing SBX. There were 153 steps to reach the top of this vessel and the elevator wasn’t operating when we arrived.
